In 1951, a young Sydney mother took out an advertisement in the local newspaper, looking for other parents of children with an intellectual disability.  This small act planted the seed for one of the best-loved and most successful disability organisations in Australia - the Sunnyfield Association. The Association is still largely driven by parents and families of people with an intellectual disability, and over the years has accomplished a great deal.

In 1952, there were 16 pupils attending the Sunnyfield Centre, ranging in age from 3 to 26 years.  Over fifty years later, Sunnyfield assists over 500 people and has over 745 services throughout NSW including Community and outreach programs, Post school options and the Gateway Community Access Program for those not having their needs met by employment.

“Sunnyfield, the best place for people with an intellectual disability to live, learn, work, make friends, have fun and get help when needed."
