When it comes to charity support, Workplace Giving has plain advantages. But all the Workplace Giving benefits would seem hollow without some clear successes. The Australian Charities Fund congratulates every member of our Workplace Giving community. From charity groups to individuals and engaged employers... your participation is fundamental to these success stories.
Mallesons

In the case of the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), the giving connection has lead to an expanded relationship, with Mallesons adopting NBCF as a pro bono client across its Australian offices. This means the NBCF is able to direct its resources towards research ventures while at the same time receiving top quality legal advice.
In 2008, in addition to donating over $34,000 to NBCF through the Workplace Giving program, Mallesons hosted Pink Ribbon Breakfasts to support the NBCF during October 2008. A free hot breakfast was provided across Mallesons' five offices. Over 700 partners and staff attended the event, where they had the chance to hear first hand from inspirational speakers such as, in Sydney, Ros Kelly (Chair of the NBCF).
Over 100 staff were involved in the planning of the breakfasts, promoting the event and decorating the venues.
Mallesons in the Community champions were situated at each table for a short planned 'Q&A' session about the Program, making sign up simple and motivating. The result was an increase in the Workplace Giving participation rate from 24% to 35%!
PricewaterhouseCoopers

When the 2009 Victorian bushfire crisis occurred, the PricewaterhouseCoopers Foundation wanted to launch a staff appeal as quickly as possible to raise funds for those whose lives had been so drastically impacted.
The PwC Foundation launched the appeal with an email from CEO, Mark Johnson, by mid morning the following Monday. The response from staff and partners was immediate and overwhelming. In just 10 days, the PwC Foundation raised $650,000 from pledges and firm matching. More than 3,200 people pledged to the appeal, representing 68 per cent of the PwC population.
The PwC Foundation were able to launch their appeal quickly, and process the pledges easily because they had in place the culture, as well as both the infrastructure and processes that come with a payroll giving program. Pledges were automatically deducted from staff members' pre-tax pay in the next pay run.
This payroll giving infrastructure is a major benefit of participating in payroll giving. The PwC Foundation is extremely proud that they were able to quickly and efficiently assist those affected by this terrible disaster.

The Australian Charities Fund has made a submission in response to the Commonwealth Treasury's discussion paper about Not-For-Profit tax concessions. For the purposes of this submission, we have limited our recommendations to those we believe can generate significant impact in growing workplace giving in Australia at a relatively low cost to government.
