The Australian Charities Fund was borne of another project. A team of consultants from Bain & Company, a global consulting firm, were working on a pro-bono project for the Garvan Institute of Medical Research which included research into charity giving in other developed nations. It emerged that, in other countries, individuals donate 3 ‐ 6 times more to charity than average Australians.
Why do we donate less to charity?
The Bain team reasoned that Australians are naturally generous in supporting others in our community, so something must be missing. Some other factors must impact on how much we donate.
Donate via pay ... the missing link
One main barrier existed. Australians were not able to donate regularly to their charity of choice in an easy, cost and tax effective manner.
The Australian Charities Fund was established in 2003 to meet this need. We do this by facilitating Workplace Giving programs, in partnership with employers and charity groups.
